Checking in on Comprehension: Creating a Suite of Reading Assessments to Match Any Curriculum

Reading instruction practices are shifting around the world. As our understanding of reading comprehension becomes more nuanced and complex, our assessment practices must evolve as well. There is no longer a “one-stop shop” assessment for reading, and the days of relying solely on leveled reading systems are fading. So how do we truly measure the many dimensions of a reader?

This online course is designed for educators who want to rethink reading assessment in meaningful, practical ways. Together, we will explore how to build assessment systems that reflect the complexity of comprehension, support responsive instruction, and provide richer insights into student growth.

Across two interactive days, participants will examine current research, reflect on existing practices, and design assessment tools that align with today’s literacy priorities.

Come with a unit in mind and a copy of your context’s reading standards/learning targets in hand as we will be creating ready-to-use tools to try out with your students.
